Schitt's Creek Stars Celebrate With the 100 Best Shows Trophy
The face of evil just got a lot more handsome. Collider reports that Emmy winner Alexander Skarsgard has been cast as Randall Flagg in CBS All Access' upcoming limited series adaptation of Stephen King's novel The Stand. CBS All Access declined to comment.
Randall Flagg, aka The Walkin' Dude, aka The Man in Black, aka many other names, is one of Stephen King's most iconic villains. He is an ageless man of considerable supernatural ability whose goal is chaos and destruction. He first appeared in The Stand and is the primary antagonist of the Dark Tower series. In The Stand, he leads a colony of evil plague survivors in Las Vegas, in preparation of the final showdown between good and evil.
Skarsgard is something of a limited series king, with his breakthrough role coming in HBO's Generation Kill and his Emmy win garnered for Season 1 of Big Little Lies (which at the time was a miniseries). He also starred in the AMC limited series The Little Drummer Girl and was most recently seen in the Showtime series On Becoming a God in Central Florida.
News of Skarsgard's casting comes right after it was announced that Mother Abagail, his forces of good counterpart, would be played by Whoopi Goldberg. They join James Marsden, Amber Heard, Jovan Adepo, Odessa Young, and Henry Zaga in the primary cast.
Alexander becomes the second Skarsgard to play an iconic King villain; his brother Bill stars as Pennywise the Clown in the IT movies. Bill also starred in Season 1 of the Stephen King-inspired anthology series Castle Rock.
The Stand is expected to premiere on CBS All Access in 2020.
