James Bond’s Miss Moneypenny is heading to Death in Paradise!

Samantha Bond is off to Saint Marie

Death in Paradise has revealed that Samantha Bond, best known for playing Miss Moneypenny in the James Bond films, will guest star in the new series.

The 57-year-old actress, who starred opposite Pierce Brosnan’s 007 in four movies, is the latest top name announced for series nine of the BBC1 detective hit.

The Death in Paradise Twitter page teased: “The name’s Bond… Samantha Bond. Samantha will be playing Joanne Henderson! Joanne is the wife of Neil played by the brilliant Steve Pemberton who we announced yesterday.”

Samantha, who’s also known for playing Lady Rosamund in Downton Abbey, appeared in the James Bond films GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day.

Death in Paradise is certainly lining up an exciting guest star list for series nine, which will see Ardal O’Hanlon depart as D.I. Jack Mooney and replaced by The Royle Family’s Ralf Little as D.I. Inspector Neville Parker.

So, which actors have been named so far as guest stars for series nine of Death in Paradise?

Well, Benidorm star Steve Pemberton is playing Neil, the husband of Samantha’s character. Sherlock’s Louise Brealey will guest as troubled artist Donna Harman and ex EastEnders actress Nina Wadia will be playing a potential love interest for Jack.

Meanwhile, another EastEnders star, Adrian Edmondson will feature in the show’s opening episode as a character called Charles Crabtree. “Charles witnesses an attack in our first episode of the series but does his story really add up?,” teases Death in Paradise.

Also heading to Saint Marie are Mr Selfridge actor Samuel West and Lost in Austen’s Elliot Cowan – the pair will be playing brothers.

“These two heavyweights play the McCormack brothers who find themselves under threat from a mysterious masked man!”

Death in Paradise returns to BBC1 in January.
